A 15-year-old boy facing numerous charges after an RCMP officer was assaulted with a screwdriver in Antigonish Co. has had his case adjourned.
Police say officers responded to a complaint on Mugasun Rd. in Paq’tnkek one Sunday morning in January.
They say an officer was speaking to the complainant when the teen returned home; he was arrested, and the officer tried to stop him from going further into the home.
RCMP say the boy grabbed a screwdriver and tried to stab the officer; both fell to the ground, the teen reached for the officer’s pistol and stabbed him several times with the screwdriver.
They say the officer’s body armour and winter clothing protected him.
The teen, who can’t be identified because of his age, faces six charges- attempted murder, assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, attempting to disarm a police officer, weapon possession and resisting arrest.
He appeared in court the next day; he was sent for a fitness assessment later that same week.
He returned to Antigonish Youth Court in February; he was released on conditions, and was expected back in court for election-and-plea Wednesday.
Instead, the hearing was adjourned until May 22; it was also adjourned in March and May 8.
