Town of Antigonish and Port Hawkesbury to Recognize February as African Heritage Month

The Town of Antigonish declared that they will recognize February as African Heritage Month.

Mayor Laurie Boucher says this a time for Nova Scotians and Antigonish Residents to research the history of African Nova Scotians and to learn about the contributions they made to the province.

The Town of Antigonish has recognized African Heritage Month for the past ten years. The declaration was made at the last regular meeting of council.

The Town of Port Hawkesbury is planning to raise the Pan-African Flag at the beginning of the month. “I think it’s important for us to learn more about our diverse province including our African Canadian Communities.” says Mayor Brenda Chisholm Beaton. “We as a council our very proud to raise the flag for African Heritage Month.”
