A man is facing 22 charges after a standoff with RCMP in Wagmatcook, Victoria County.
Victoria County District RCMP responded to a report of an altercation on Twin Lane. One of the men involved had been acting erratically and left the scene with a knife.
Officers later found him at a residence on Humes Rear East Loop, where he was also in possession of a firearm. The man made threats to both himself and police before attempting to flee in two stolen vehicles. He then broke into an unoccupied home and barricaded himself inside.
Concerned for public safety, RCMP issued a civil emergency alert for Victoria, Inverness, and Cape Breton counties. The RCMP Emergency Response Team, along with crisis negotiators, police dogs, and air services, were called in to assist.
After several hours, the man exited the home and was safely arrested. Paramedics treated him for injuries unrelated to the arrest.
He remains in custody and is facing 22 new charges, including break and enter, uttering threats, multiple firearms offences, and nine counts of failing to comply with a release order.
RCMP continue to investigate the initial altercation and ask anyone with information to contact Victoria County RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
