Voluntary Evacuation For Residents of Indian Gardens

The Antigonish Town and County Emergency Management Team has organized a voluntary evacuation centre for residents of Indian Gardens whose homes were impacted by last Novembers flood as a precautionary measure leading up the arrival of Hurricane Fiona.

The EMT reached out to volunteers with the St Joseph’s Lakeside Community Centre and have made arrangements for the evacuation centre to open as of 6PM this evening and it will be open for 24 hours. There will be cots, food, and supplies for those that choose to evacuate.

EMT Information Manager Shannon Long says evacuees should also bring a bag of comfort items like a pillow and blanket and medications. People should also bring their own food if they have special dietary needs.

Antigonish Community Transit will be providing transportation to the centre for those that need it until 7PM. Residents arriving at the centre will be asked to register with a member of the Red Cross. Any further need for shelter space will be assessed during the storm.

Residents that did not evacuate should call 911 if they are faced with an emergency.
