Warden not satisfied with Bell Aliant response

A local council isn’t satisfied with a response from Bell Aliant representatives on landline issues.

Laurie Cranton, the Warden of Inverness Co., says staff sent the complaint letter, about lost landline service during power outages, in March.

Cranton tells The Hawk company reps brushed off their concerns, telling them inspectors regularly check the equipment.

“We’re not satisfied with their answer, in terms of people not receiving service,” he says. “When power outages have occurred, there’s people feeling quite desperate without any communication.”

Cranton says company reps asked for proof there actually were issues.

So, he says they’re going to find 15-20 people in the county who’ve had issues.

“Let them investigate, talk to these people to find out that, yes there are legitimate concerns out there,” he says. “This is a safety issue, basically, and we’re not going to let it go away.”

Cranton says he’s signed a second letter, giving the company 15 days to respond, otherwise they’ll go to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, the CRTC.
