What’s the deal with Katy Perry going to space?

Katy Perry and Gayle King (journalist and Oprah’s bestie) will be on the next and 11th Blue Origin space flight which is a company founded by Jeff Bezos. It will also be all women aboard.

Joining them will be a former NASA engineer, a research scientist, a film producer and a helicopter pilot (the helicopter pilot is Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos fiancée)

It will be the first time in 62 years that an all female crew have traveled to space. In 1963 Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space when she made the trip solo.

This will be an 11 minute trip past the boundary of space. The spacecraft is automated and does not require a pilot on board. (hard pass for me)

You can take a look inside one of the crew capsules here.

On the website, there is a form you can fill out to apply to take one of these trips. At the bottom, is says:

I acknowledge Blue Origin will collect a $150,000 USD fully refundable deposit to begin the order process.
