X-Men basketball team wins 13th AUS title

The STFX X-Men basketball team has claimed the Atlantic University Sport title. Their 13th conference banner in team history.

The championship game was played against the UPEI Panthers at the Scotiabank Centre on Sunday with a final score of 104-54

This is the first time the X-Men won the championship since 2006. The X-Men previously won three championships in a row in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

The X-Men opened with a three pointer from player Avan Nava of Mississauga Ontario. Nava also scored the most points in the game a total of 16.

They had five players in double scoring digits including Subway player of the game, tournament all-star, and tournament MVP David Muenkat who had a double-double game with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

X-Men Coach Tyrell Veron says the hard work from the team paid off and it felt great to win the title.

The Panthers and the X-Men will face each other again at the U Sports Final 8 National Championship.

That tournament will take place from March 10th to the 12th at the Scotiabank Centre. They will be joined by Canada West Representatives Victoria and Winnipeg and two teams from the OUA conference.

The U Sports Final 8 schedule will be finalized on March 4th.
