44th Annual Tiger Mackie Tournament launches new female division in honour of grand daughter Tricia Little

The 44th annual Tiger Mackie Oldtimer’s Tournament will take place at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre January 25-28, 2024.

Tiger Mackie was born in PEI where he began playing hockey as a child. His hockey career, which spanned 30+ years, began in 1933 as part of the Charlottetown Abbies. He went on to play professional hockey in the United States for Pittsburgh and Detroit and in Canada for teams in Quebec and Glace Bay.

He settled in Port Hawkesbury and continued to play and coach locally. He was still playing hockey in his 80’s. Tiger Mackie passed away in 2003 at the age of 89.

This year, the tournament in his honour will include a female division with multiple teams competing for the 1st Annual Tricia Little Cup. Trish Little was the a grand daughter of Tiger Mackie and also an athlete and coach.

She played basketball and soccer at the University level, was a skilled equestrian and she excelled in Track & Field.

At the time of her passing in 2021 due to breast Cancer, Trish, a mother to four children, was the coach of the SAERC Saints high school girls basketball team.

The female division is named in her honour.
