13 students involved in school bus crash in Inverness Co.

RCMP, firefighters and paramedics responded when a school bus with 13 children went off the road in northern Inverness Co.

Police say the single-vehicle crash happened on Coady Rd. in Margaree Forks at roughly 3:15 p.m. Thursday.

They say the bus driver was making a turn on an icy road and passing a parked vehicle when they lost control, left the road and went down an embankment.

RCMP say the students were assessed by paramedics at the scene, and there were no injuries.

Officials with the Strait Regional Centre for Education say nine of the students from Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre-Academy were released to their parents; the remaining four went home on a replacement bus.

Police and SRCE officials say they continue to investigate.
