Today is a historic day for the Cabot Trail

It was reportedly on this day in 1497 when explorer John Cabot, (Giovanni Caboto) for who the Cabot Trail is named after, arrived. Granted, he thought Newfoundland was Asia but it was 1497. (there is probably a joke to be made here about men asking for directions, but again….it was 1497)

In fact, there has been debate over the years regarding if he arrived first in NFLD or Cape Breton since Newfoundland being the first land he encountered after crossing the ocean makes more sense than Cape Breton.

Construction of the initial route of the now world famous Cabot Trail was completed in 1932.
