Town officials provide information for street project

The mayor of Port Hawkesbury says town officials are very pleased with the turnout for an open house.

Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says they wanted to answer questions about the Destination Reeves St. project, but didn’t want people sitting through a full information session if they only had a couple questions, so an open house was a great format.

She says it’s a big and exciting project, and it has a lot of people optimistic for the future of the town.

After December’s regular town council meeting Tuesday night, Chisholm-Beaton said they covered a lot of information for those who wanted it.

“We certainly did take some people who had very little knowledge and kind of took them through the motions- from the vision piece, to frequently asked questions, through to streetscapes and facade and active transportation.”

Chisholm-Beaton said they also discussed the engineering plan, which is ever-changing.

She said she was pleased with the response and dialogue.

“We were very appreciative of the citizens that did come to our open house- they asked all kinds of great questions,” she said. “We felt that many of them did come with their questions, and all of the questions were answered.”

Chisholm-Beaton said the project will provide a lot of opportunities for more questions and feedback from members of the public.
