Mass Casualty Commission to Release Final Report March 30

The Mass Casualty Commission will release it’s final report on the 2020 Nova Scotia Mass Shooting on March 30. The report will be released in person in Truro, NS and will include details on what happened, how and why as well as recommendations to improve community safety. After 76 days of public proceedings, they heard from over 230 witnesses. As required in its mandate, the final report includes the Commission’s thorough analysis and review of: Access to firearms Communications between and within law enforcement agencies and other services Communications with the public during and after the event Gender-based and intimate partner violence Police actions Police policies, procedures and training Prior interactions and relationship of the perpetrator with the police and social services The steps taken to inform, support and engage those most affected In April of 2020 a gunman dressed as a Mountie shot and killed 22 people in Portapique, NS. He was then fatally shot by two RCMP officers at a gas station, north of Halifax.
