Richmond County not supportive of Bill 225

The Municipality of the County of Richmond has discussed Bill 225.

This bill allows the province to override the by-laws of Halifax if they hinder the construction of housing proposals.

Richmond County Warden Amanda Mombourquette says while the law doesn’t affect their Municipality, they believe it’s an overreach by the province.

The Municipality is still committed to working with the province to address the housing crisis without supporting legislation that allows for by-laws to be bypassed.

The Municipality plans to send a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to request that the bill be repealed.
