TV Show Re-Boots

Everything old is new again! At least when it comes to 3 favorite TV shows from the nineties. (granted, 2 began in the eighties but continued into the early nineties)

First. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (WILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!) When watching this show, you knew if DJ Jazzy Jeff showed up to the mansion wearing that shirt, he was gonna get booted out the front door.

The Fresh Prince reboot idea began last year when filmmaker, Morgan Cooper released this trailer for an updated, more dramatic and darker telling of the story. What would happen if Will Smith made The Fresh Prince today? Bel-Air, a story of a kid from Philly whose life got turned upside-down… in 2019. The video has been viewed more that 5.5 Million times on YouTube.

Looks good right? Well, TV executives thought so too and a show based on Morgan Coopers trailer is being pitched to various streaming platforms. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Peacock, Netflix and HBO Max are among the streamers who are bidding on the potential series. HBO Max is the current streaming home for the original series.

Curious what Will Smith thinks of the idea? Check out this video

Next up: Saved By the Bell. It’s been almost 30 (!!!) years since the original series ended. This re-boot is closer to our TV screens than Fresh Prince as it’s already been picked up by NBC Peacock, which is a streaming service.

The new series will pick up in modern day, set about 30 years after the original cast was at Bayside High. Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkeley and Mario Lopez will all be on the show along with a new cast.

Zack (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) is now the Governor of California, Jessie (Elizabeth Berkeley) is the Guidance Councillor at Bayside and AC (Mario Lopez) is the gym teacher.

You can see the trailer for the 2020 version of Saved by the Bell here. (it’s worth it just for the caffeine pills scene)

And finally we have my personal favorite, Who’s the Boss! Me and my dad spent countless hours watching this.

Less information is available for this reboot, it was just announced on August 4th. Both Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano confirmed it on their social media. So far, Judith Light doesn’t seem to be involved.

Who’s the Boss is in development at Sony Pictures Television. Like Saved by the Bell, the story will pick up 30 years after the original series ended.

Sam is now a single mother living in the house the series was set in.

Danny Pintauro, who played Jonathan doesn’t seem to be involved with the show but is said to be supportive of the new series. Sadly, Katherine Helmond, who played the incredible Mona Robinson, died last year at age 89.
