A local first nation is partnering with an Atlantic Canadian seafood giant to market and sell their aquaculture crop.
We’koqma’q’s steelhead trout fish farm, in the Bras d’Or lake, will provide fish for Cooke Aquaculture’s seafood brands.
We’koqma’q and Cooke announced the partnership in a release Monday.
The first nation’s fish farm was re-established in 2011 and employs over 50 people.
Harvesting and marketing of the steelhead trout began Monday.
