Point Tupper fire service agreement working well

Richmond Co.’s Warden says having the Port Hawkesbury Volunteer Fire Department cover fire service in Point Tupper is much better for everyone.

After Monday’s regular Municipality of the County of Richmond council meeting, Brian Marchand said it’s roughly 20 minutes faster to have Port Hawkesbury respond than having the nearest Richmond Co. fire department, the Louisdale Volunteer Fire Department, do so.

Marchand told The Hawk an improvement in response time makes it safer for everyone.

“The fire department that we had as first responders, the Louisdale fire department, didn’t want to do that anymore,” he said. “For them timing was a big thing, for the residents as well as the industry in the industrial park, so this is the better arrangement.”

Marchand said Port Hawkesbury has only responded once since the change, but it went very well.
