A man from Guysborough Co. is among the six inaugural winners of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence for l’Acadie and Francophonie of Nova Scotia.
The award, which was created in August, recognizes social, economic or cultural contributions to the francophone community- and the province as a whole- in three categories: francophone, someone who isn’t francophone but supports and promotes French language and culture, and a youth recipient younger than 25.
There are two winners in each category for the first year, then one winner per category the following years.
Jude Avery of Larry’s River is one of two winners in the francophone category.
Avery and the five other winners will be honoured during a ceremony at Government House at a later date.
