Shovels have started digging a new arts centre in Guysborough.
The highly anticipated construction has now begun on a Centre for the Arts at the Mulgrave Road Theatre.
The theatre says after many years of planning and fundraising they are on the “brink” of being Atlantic Canada’s first “purpose-built net-zero performance and cultural facility”.
It will serve as an inclusive space for artists and community members.
The building was designed by Solterre Design and is being built by Iron Maple Constructors.
Tate Engineering Inc. is the project management team, led by Murray Tate, a former Antigonish County resident.
MP Mike Kelloway says the performing and visual arts sector has a long history in Canada that helps to define and preserve our cultural identify.
“By making use of digital and sustainable technologies, this creativity centre will support theatre artists, musicians, visual artists and many others for many years to come-creating lasting benefits for Guysborough and Northeastern Nova Scotia.”
Mulgrave Road Theatre says they recognize and appreciate the generous support of Canada, the province and the Municipality of the District of Guysborough as well as donors, helping take the Centre of the Arts another step closer to reality.
The facility is slated to be completed by 2026.
