Lobster prices way up, fishing rep says

Lobster prices spiked in the final half of the season.

President of the Inverness South Fishermen’s association, Jordan MacDougall, says it was a nice surprise to see prices jump as much as three dollars a pound.

At mid season, lobster was fetching about $8 per pound; by the end of season, it had spiked to as much as $11 per pound.

Markets are thriving as businesses prepare to reopen and tourism season ramps up, MacDougall says

“We had a good season and it’s going to help the economy in Nova Scotia, for sure. Lobster is a big industry… and it drives a lot of other businesses.”

The price was nearly three times as much as it was in 2020, when market lobster were fetching anywhere from $3.75 to $5 per pound, MacDougall says.

He also says, the price is the highest he’s seen for his area.
