Rising waters in Antigonish causing closures, concern for town

Main Street in Antigonish has been closed to due flooding.

The road is closed between the Maritime Inn and St. Andrews street.

Several areas and streets in town have been identified as points of concern due to rising water levels as well.

Creighton parking lot has is closed effective immediately. All cars must be moved from the lot or left at owners risk.

Other areas of concern include:

– Antigonish Market Square Parking Lot: Water levels are rising in the front and back of the parking lot.
– Columbus Field: Significant flooding in the area including the dog park.
– Chisholm Park: Rising water levels.

The following streets are currently experiencing flooding concerns:

– Elm Street and Main Street intersection.
– Upper Hawthorne Street.
– Church Street by the bridge.
– Court Street near the river.
– Trotters Lane, parts of MacLellan Street and Johns Path.

Town workers are out and about clearing catch basins and monitoring the situation. Residents are asked to call 902-867-5575 to report any town infrastructure flooding.

Residents are responsible for flood mitigation on their own property.

People are being advised the water levels will continue to rise as we continue to experience significant rainfall.
