Richmond County Man Facing Multiple Firearms Charges

A 56 year old man has been charged with five firearms offences.

Inverness Richmond RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit say they arrested Frank Eckhardt of Grand River on December 23 during a traffic stop on Highway 4 near St. Peter’s.

Police say the arrest came after an investigation into a report of shots fired near a residence three days earlier on West Bay Road in Cape George.

Mounties say they then executed a search warrant which turned up firearms, including handguns, ammunition, gun powder and cash.

RCMP say Eckhardt has been charged with Careless Transportation of a Firearm (3 counts), Careless Storage of a Firearm (4 counts), Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2 counts), Possession of a Firearm while Knowing Possession is Unlawful (2 counts) and Possession of a Weapon Obtained in the Commission of an Offence (2 counts).

Eckhardt was released on conditions and is set to appear in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court on February Ninth.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
