Changes Coming To Local Intersection As Part Of New Five Year Highway Plan

Changes are coming to the intersection of Highways 104 and 344 according to the Province’s new Five Year Highway Plan.

After a study was done on the intersection, officials decided the best way to move forward would be to move the intersection slightly East and add left turn lanes in each direction.

Guysborough-Tracadie MLA Greg Morrow said he’s happy public works recognized the urgency and added this as part of the plan.

“The Department of Public Works recognized that that work needed to be done and it remains a safety issue and now it’s on the books for this construction season which is very exciting.” Morrow said.

He also said that officials from the Town of Mulgrave were instrumental in pushing the issue forward.

“Thanks to Town Mayor Ron Chisholm and councillors there that have really pushed this forward and highlighted the concerns of residents in that area. That was a big factor in getting this work put on for 2022.” Morrow said.

He added that department officials hope to have the tender ready for the spring, with work possibly starting in early summer.

The project is expected to take two months or so, depending on the schedule from the successful bidder.
