Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 Poster and Literary contest – TEC and SAERC winners!

Congratulations to the students at SAERC and TEC who have won placement in various divisions in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43 Poster and Literary Contest for 2021.

The submissions all have a Remembrance Day theme and were done last November. The first and second place winners have had their work sent to Provincial Command for further judging.

The submissions of the provincial winners are then sent to Dominion Command for National Judging.

This year, there were 175 entries. Legion members would like to thank every student who participated and let them know that by submitting entries, it sends a message to Branch 43 and Community members that Remembrance will continue.

Update with SAERC and TEC student Command winners:

Charlie Landry, a Grade five student at TEC has placed 2nd Provincially in the Junior Poetry Category (Grade 4, 5 and 6) for her poem “Poppies and Crosses”. We wish her sincere congratulations and look forward to her participation in future years.

Sara Pluta, a Grade 12 student at SAERC has placed 1st Provincially in the Senior Poetry Category (Grades 10, 11 and 12) for her poem “Life in the Trenches”. Sara has also placed 1st Provincially in the Senior Essay Category for her essay “The Meaning of Remembrance”. RCL Branch 043 Port Hawkesbury is forever grateful to Sara who has shown a continued commitment to conveying her sincere thoughts on the meaning of remembrance. In 2018 Sara actually placed 1st Nationally for her poem “My PTSD”. We at Branch 043 thank Sara for all her work over the past few years and wish her the best in her future studies.

Annie Maltby, a Grade 11 student at SAERC has placed 2nd Provincially in the Senior Poetry Category for her poem “Letter of War”. We offer our appreciation to Annie for the thoughtfulness of her offering and look forward to her participation again next year.

As is usual, there are many entries each year, each conveying the student’s perspective on Remembrance. Judging the entries is a difficult task.

The entries are very often “eye opening” to the judges who are mostly amazed at what all the students can create.

To then manage to have one Provincial winner from the Strait Area would be quite an achievement. To have three winner is remarkable.
