An Academy Award for Nova Scotian Director Ben Proudfoot

How about the fact that a Nova Scotian won an Oscar last night?

Halifax director, Ben Proudfoot won an academy award for Best Documentary! It was produced in part by Shaquille O’Neal and Stephen Curry.

The film is called ‘The Queen of Basketball’ and tells the story of Lusia “Lucy” Harris Stewart who is called a pioneer in women’s basketball.

She scored the first basket in Olympic women’s basketball history and was the first woman officially drafted by an NBA team

She passed away on January 18th, 2022 at the age of 66.
