Local MLA’s React to Provincial Budget Items

As the Houston government unveiled the new provincial budget yesterday, there were many big items noted such as health care and education.

Another large price tag came from road work which the government forecasted $508 million.

Guysborough-Tracadie MLA Greg Morrow says there’s more to come.

“There is money in here to repair roads and more to come as we go along.”

Healthcare was the biggest item coming in at $5.7 billion.

Inverness MLA Allan MacMaster says the money will help down the line.

“We need more human resources in healthcare an we’re going to need some time. In the end, I’m hopeful that the investments we’re making are going to produce measurable results so that people will say in four years time, ‘yes our healthcare system is better’.”

The health care budget represents 45% of the total spending.
