The Town and County of Antigonish are looking for public feedback on a proposed consolidation between the two municipalities.
Town of Antigonish Mayor, Laurie Boucher, says after discussing the idea in council, they now want to hear from residents and businesses.
“At this time we are going out to the community. We want to hear what people think, what they think the ups are of this and the downs.”
Boucher says the idea of consolidation has been passed around for a while given how well the two entities work together and they were waiting for the proper time to explore its feasibility.
She says when herself and County Warden Owen McCarron brought the idea to their respective councils, everyone was open to exploring further.
“I’m happy to say that both councils were open to exploring the idea and it passed unanimously and here we are now and that’s exactly what we’re doing.”
The Mayor also adds that after doing some research and consulting with other municipalities who have already gone through consolidation, she believes it would benefit local residents and businesses, as well as making certain processes more efficient.
