Hugh A MacLeod Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father Hugh A MacLeod, at home surrounded by his loving family on April 12, 2026. Born in Sydney, May 5, 1943, he was the eldest son of the late Angus Nicholson and Margaret Ellen (Lamey) MacLeod.

He spent his early years in West Bay Road forming life long friends and a strong and honest work ethic which carried through in his business, Mac Motors Ltd, which he ran for 39 years. He was always on call no matter the time of day or night.

He is survived by his daughters, Paula (Angus) MacDougall, Hughina (John) MacDougall, and Heather (Rodney Morgan) Macleod, son-in-law Bruce Edwards. Grandchildren Brent, Brooke (Steven), and Nicole Edwards; Grant, Colin, Ellen (Kyle) MacDougall; Jorden and Brayden MacDougall; and Patrick (Mya), Kyle and Mary Flora Holder. Two Great-grandaughers, Bella MacDonald and Briar Sutherland who lit up his eyes whenever he saw them. Brother, David (Josephine) MacLeod; Sister, Ruth (John) Carroll; Cousin, who was like a brother, George (Shelia) MacLeod; Sister-in-law, Charlotte (Alexander) Campbell, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary (MacLellan) MacLeod; mother and father-in-law, Ronald and Christine MacLellan; children, Charlene, Mark, Ronalda (in infancy) and Joseph (in infancy) and sister, Shirley Mac Leod.

We would like to express a special thank you to his caregivers Shauna, Amber, and Debbie for the kindness and compassion they gave to dad.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kempt Road Cemetery fund or charity of choice.

Visitation will take place from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, April 20 in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury and from where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
