Marion ‘Ann’ Campbell

It is with great sadness that the family of Marion “Ann” Campbell (nee Salterio) of Port Hawkesbury, NS announce her passing on Tuesday, July 21st,2026 at the age of 87. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mom was born on October 11 1938 along with her triplet sisters, Elizabeth, Marie and Mary Louise, The Salterio Triplets were the first triplets to be born in Halifax in 50 years in which at that time was front page news of the Halifax Herald .They were presented to the King and Queen of England during the Royal Visit of 1939.

Mom grew up in Princes Lodge and met our father at the age of 13 in which they would marry on Sept 12th, 1959, and as our mother would put it, she didn’t marry at the age of 20 but one month short of her 21st birthday.

Mom graduated from Halifax Vocational School in 1957 with secretarial and started her first Job at Coca Cola. Once she started a family, she became a stay-at-home mom.  After moving to Port Hawkesbury, she re-entered the workforce in 1981 accepting a job at the Eastern Counties Regional Library as a librarian and continued working there until her retirement in 2003.

Over the years Mom participated in many activities such as Curling, Bowling, and being a librarian, she always had 4 or 5 books on the go she was reading. She loved sitting with her newspaper, reading cover to cover which would take her hours and always finished with completing the cryptoquote, suduko, and of course the crossword.

She was very active in the community over the years. She was part of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion Br. 43 spending many afternoons peeling potatoes in the kitchen or doing whatever was needed of her. In her later years she was very active in the Evergreen Seniors Club volunteering her time and enjoying a good game of Bridge or Kanasta most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most Friday nights you would find her at Bingo which she always looked forward to.

Mom loved travelling and you could find her on a bus tour to New York City with her sisters or a Caribbean cruise with her sister Betty over the years. Betty and Mom would travel to PEI for Old Home week, making it a yearly tradition.

Throughout her whole life her strong faith guided her as did her strong love of family. Some of her favorite moments would be sitting back and listening to her children and nieces and nephews laughing and reminiscing at family gatherings.

Ann will be lovingly remembered by her 4 children, Bobby(Cheryl), Tantallon; Larry (Mary), Corbeil, Ontario; Jimmy (Gemma), Creignish and Joann(Jeff), Port Hawkesbury,10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (whom she loved with all her heart and enjoyed every moment with over the years ); brothers-in-law, Eddie Martell, Carl Dorey; Glennie Kerr; and many nieces and nephews .

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 49 years Cyril “Cy”; her parents, Joseph Arthur Salterio and Florence Josephine (nee Waller); sisters, Jean and husband, Hughie Patterson; Carol Martell; Claire Dorey; Betty and husband Billy Salter; Mary Lou Kerr; and niece, Janice Patterson-Williams
