William Benjamin Cremo

CREMO, William Benjamin “Willie Bee” – Age 57, We’koqma’q First Nation, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on May 24, 1969, in Baddeck, he was the son of the late John Gaulbert and Mary Theresa (Sylliboy) Cremo.

Willie worked as a teacher, Social Worker and his last job was working with elders. He worked with APTN when it first started in Ottawa. He enjoyed traveling and was always on the road. He was awarded for his bravery in saving a family from a house fire in Membertou. Willie lived openly as a proud gay man, embracing life with courage, pride and love.

Surviving are his siblings, John William “Tiny” (Karen), We’koqma’q; Leonard Harvey (Elizabeth), Pictou Landing; Yvonne, We’koqma’q; Clifford “Jake” (Valerie), Membertou; special cousins who were like siblings, Rosie, Charlotte, Boo, Duce and Michelle, Melinda, his Membertou family, Uncle Buster, Derek Christmas, Vicki Christmas and Alexan Christmas and many cousins and friends; his Eskasoni Cremo family and many cousins and friends; godmother, Marie Sylliboy; godchildren, Jasmine Matthews, Judd Poulette, Majestic MacMillan, Pheonix Pierro, Heaven Leigh Googoo; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers, Joseph Dennis “Sosep”, Simon “Chum”, Johnny Gaulbert Jr.; sister, Nancy Cremo; godfather, Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the palliative care doctors and nurses of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their kindness and support shown to Willie during his illness.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, in the We’koqma’q Community Centre, 15 Reservation Rd. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25 in Blessed St. Kateri Parish, We’koqma’q with Father Joby Augustin officiating, Burial in the parish cemetery. Salite will follow burial in the school gym.
