Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre is bringing a classic tale to life with puppets and storytelling for young audiences.
The Biggest Little House in the Forest is a family-friendly production based on the book by Djemma Bider that was adapted for the stage by Rosanna Staffa.
One single performer, Rachel Lloyd, plays every character while narrating the story.
“As a puppeteer there is no greater joy to me than when a puppet finally comes to life in my hands, when I find what they can do and how that particular puppet expresses themselves, so getting to do that with six puppets even though it was overwhelming at times was also so fun and exciting!” says Lloyd.
The play follows a butterfly, mouse, frog, rabbit and rooster who make an abandoned house their home, before facing a big question: is there enough room for a bear?
Shows run through August 8 at the Bauer Theatre at St. Francis Xavier University, with performances happening daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
