Today’s beach conditions are mixed across Cape Breton, depending on where you’re headed.
Port Hood is enjoying plenty of sunshine with the air temperature sitting at 24°C and the water at a comfortable 20°C. A strong west wind is blowing through, but there’s no surf, making for a calm shoreline despite the breeze.
Over in Inverness, it’s 24°C on the beach and an inviting 22°C in the water. A mix of sun and cloud, but beachgoers should take note: lifeguards are advising against swimming due to strong currents. A strong east wind is contributing to the challenging water conditions, so it’s a good day to stay on the sand and enjoy the view.
At Bayfield Beach, temperatures are the warmest of the bunch with the air reaching 26°C. The water is 20°C, with sun and cloud overhead. A strong southwest wind is keeping things breezy, and there’s no surf to speak of.
Meanwhile, Point Michaud is a little cooler, with the air at 21°C and the water at 17°C. Clouds and a moderate southwest wind are making for a quieter beach day. There is a small 0.3-metre surf, offering just a bit of wave action for those looking to catch some movement on the water.
Wherever you’re spending the day, be sure to check local conditions before heading into the water, and if you’re in Inverness, follow the lifeguards’ advice and stay out of the surf. Enjoy the beach!
