Books by the water: a Port Hawkesbury discovery

Last night, while out for a walk along the Port Hawkesbury waterfront, I came across something I hadn’t noticed before: a small lending library tucked in beside the Yacht Club.

I love finding little things like this in our community. It’s such a simple idea, take a book, leave a book, share a story. For a book lover, there is something pretty special about knowing that a novel you’re finished with might become someone else’s next great read!

If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s worth a look the next time you’re down by the waterfront.

A few friendly reminders for anyone using a community lending library:

Take a book if something catches your interest.

Leave a book when you can, but don’t feel obligated to make it a one-for-one exchange.

Try to donate books that are clean, dry, and in good condition.

Be mindful that readers of all ages may be browsing, so choose donations accordingly.

Don’t overload the library. If it’s already full, save your donation for another day.

Most importantly, treat it with respect so everyone can enjoy it.

It’s a great little addition to the waterfront!
