Pirates, Bulldogs square off in Port Hawkesbury

The Battle of the Quad Counties resumes in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

The Strait Pirates host the Antigonish Bulldogs.

The Pirates (21-2-1), winners of four straight and 16 of their last 17, are first in the Sid Rowe Division- and the entire league- with 43 points, six points up on the Miners for top spot in the division, and a point ahead of East Hants for first overall.

The Bulldogs (15-12-0), with wins in two of their last three, are third in the division with 30 points, seven points behind the Miners for second, and four points ahead of fourth-place Pictou Co.

Taylor Lambke, the head coach of the Pirates, tells The Hawk he expects a fast-paced game.

“They’ve got a lot of firepower up front, they like to score some goals,” he says. “We’re going to have to make sure we defend properly and match the intensity, and it should be a fun game overall.”

The Pirates have won the first two games in the four-game season series by a combined score of 13-2.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.

The Pirates visit Eskasoni Sunday afternoon; the Bulldogs host Pictou Co. Sunday night.
