A long-time municipal councillor in Richmond Co. has died.
Malcolm Beaton passed away at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish after a battle with cancer Tuesday; he was 68.
Beaton joined Richmond Co. council in 1988, and served for 28 years; he didn’t re-offer in the last municipal elections in 2016.
He also served as the municipality’s deputy warden.
Beaton was a driving force behind the creation of Strait Area Transit, becoming the organization’s first general manager- and employee- when he was hired in 2007.
He retired in 2012.
