Local sports preview (Thursday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders host Pictou Co. in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

The Islanders (15-17-2), who have won two of their last three and will finish fifth in the eight-team league, have 32 points; last-place Pictou Co. (9-22-2) has 20 points.

The teams have split the first six games in the seven-game season series.

Puck drop at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood is 7 p.m.

 

The top two teams in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League face off when the Richmond Academy Hurricanes host the Inverness-Baddeck Academy Rebels.

The Hurricanes (8-2-2) and Rebels (9-3-0) both have 26 points, five points up on third-place SAERC in the five-team league.

The teams have split the first two games in the four-game season series.

Puck drop at the Richmond Arena in Louisdale is 7:30 p.m.

 

The Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals are back in action in the Northern Nova Scotia High School Hockey League.

Dr. J.H. Gillis, who defeated Northumberland 6-1 in Antigonish Wednesday night, travel to Truro to take on the CEC Cougars.

It’s the fourth and final regular season games between the teams; CEC has won the first three.

Game time is 6:30 p.m.

The Royals visit North Nova Friday night.
