Pirates go for 3-0 series lead against Miners

The Strait Pirates will try to take a commanding three-games-to-none lead when they host the Miners in game three of their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoff series.

Cody Smith, the Pirates’ goalie, recorded shutouts in the opening two games of the best-of-seven, Sid Rowe Division final, and hasn’t allowed a goal since the first period of game six against Antigonish in the first round; his shutout streak is approaching 224 minutes.

Taylor Lambke, the team’s head coach, tells The Hawk they’ve been playing well defensively, and their goaltender has been coming up big.

“He was a key piece that we added (in 2017-18) in a trade- he’s a tremendous kid (who) works hard (and) competes hard in the net,” he says. “He’s huge for us, and the boys love playing hard in front of him.”

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.

The second-round series returns to Membertou for game four Saturday night.
