Municipal officials ask DOT for Hwy. 337 traffic study

The warden of Antigonish Co. says municipal officials have asked their provincial counterparts to conduct a traffic study on a fast section of highway.

Owen McCarron says they’ve asked officials with the province’s transportation department to get an idea of speeds on Hwy. 337, and come up with ways to reduce those speeds.

After April’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night, McCarron said it’s been an ongoing concern for residents.

“It continues to be a fairly fast section of highway coming in,” he said. “With the development of Mount Cameron- obviously more traffic in and out of that development- traffic just seems to be running fairly quickly.”

McCarron said there’s a lot of congestion on the section of highway near St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, and they hope a traffic study will help solve that problem as well.
