The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says the district four byelection featured four good candidates.
Dave Hanhams won Saturday’s byelection with 167 votes, 89 votes ahead of runner-up Elaine Durling.
He’ll replace Blair George, the former District 4 councillor who died in an ATV crash in Halfway Cove in January.
After April’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said Hanhams will bring a lot to the table.
“He’s been involved in his community for a number of years, he runs a business,” he said. “I spoke to Dave previous to him even filing- I think he’s a very bright individual, I think he’s going to have a lot to contribute to the team.”
Hanhams, who attended Wednesday’s meeting as an observer, will officially be sworn in May 1.
