Cheticamp break-in suspect pleads guilty

A man arrested in connection with several break-and-enters in Inverness Co. has been sentenced to time behind bars.

Police say a man broke into businesses three times in January and once in December.

They say he broke into restaurants in Cheticamp and stole alcohol, with one case involving thousands of dollars in damage.

Joseph Maurice Larade, 52, of Cheticamp originally faced four counts of break-and-enter, four counts of mischief over $5,000, three counts of theft under $5,000, a possession of a break-in instrument count and two breaches.

Larade entered a guilty plea to four break-and-enter counts and a breach during an election-and-plea hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Tuesday; his remaining charges were withdrawn.

He was sentenced to two years in prison, followed by two years of probation; he was also ordered to pay $2,000 each in restitution to a pair of restaurant owners.
