Ellis set for NHL draft

A local hockey player is in Vancouver for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

River Denys’ Colten Ellis is the top-ranked goaltender from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and is eighth among all draft-eligible goalies playing in North America.

The 18-year-old former Cape Breton West Islander plays for the Rimouski Oceanic in the QMJHL.

Ellis tells The Hawk it’s an exciting time.

“Obviously, it’s something that you dream about, your whole life really- it’s kind of still all sinking in, and (it’s) definitely a surreal feeling being able to go out there,” he says. “It’s been a long year leading up to this.”

The first round of the draft takes place Friday night; rounds 2-7 are Saturday.
