The 6th annual Gaelic Kitchenfest kicks off today.
The festival showcases Gaelic culture in Cape Breton, and the 10 day event features over 80 performances, in 38 venues, with over 100 other events.
Rodney MacDonald, CEO of the Gaelic College, tells The Hawk it’s about promoting Gaelic culture.
“We’re promoting our music that we play, here, at home, around the island, and around the strait area,” he says. “We have Gaelic hosts throughout the week, so we’re promoting our Gaelic language, our culture, and our roots.”
Macdonald says they’re growing.
“We had five successful years,” he says. “Our attendance went from about 5000 the first year to almost 13000 last year.”
He says that’s a good indication the festival will keep going strong.
