Canal Landing grand opening Saturday

Saint Peter’s and the Potlotek First Nation have partnered to create a new cultural tourism centre.

Canal Landing opens Saturday.

Saint Peter’s Economic Development Organization, or SPEDO, Director Sherry MacLeod tells The Hawk the partnership between SPEDO and Potlotek First Nation is good for both.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to work together and build relations between the two communities,” she says. “I think it’s good for the area, it’s good for economic development.”

MacLeod says it will be a place to learn about indigenous culture.

“Learning their crafts, trying to keep the old traditions, that’s what it’s all about,” she says. “They’re gonna to teach us a little bit more about our history.”

She says there will be plenty of activities at the centre; with watercraft and fishing rentals, sweet grass excursions and medicine walks, and indigenous crafts for sale.

The grand opening is Saturday at 2 p.m. and will feature a ribbon cutting and live entertainment.
