Ottawa asked NS to add Inverness airport to funding list

The premier has confirmed Ottawa asked the province to put a proposed Inverness airport on the provincial funding list.

Premier Stephen McNeil says that means if the federal government approves the project the province will fund it.

“By putting it on the list we’ve committed to that, but it will be determined, that project will be determined, by them,” he says. “There was a lot of back and forth around that particular project.”

McNeil says they didn’t consider the airport a priority, but the federal government requested it.

“It was not on the top of our list, we have a number of things we were putting in as a priority,” he says. “They wanted to have this as a priority for them, and we agreed to it

McNeil says it’s still up to the federal government to approve the project, and he says they’ll still have to negotiate how the cost will be split up, but he says the province would contribute less than 50 per cent.
