Ground broken on new skatepark

Antigonish’s mayor says the community’s new all wheels skatepark is a great example of collaboration.

A ground-breaking ceremony at site of the new park on West St. was held Monday.

After July’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, the mayor of Antigonish, said the project has been a long time coming.

“A lot of hard work (came) from not just our staff of today and our council of today, but councils of the past and community groups of the past,” she said. “(They) all brought us to where we are.”

Boucher said representatives from the Town of Antigonish, Antigonish Co., StFX, and the Antigonish Skatepark Association worked very well together to make the park happen.

She said construction on the roughly $700,000 project is expected to get underway in late July, and last 10-12 weeks.
