Antigonish mayor says she’s hearing good things about intersection upgrades

The mayor of Antigonish says people seem pleased with the redesign of an intersection in the town.

Work to install an island, new traffic lights and new lines at Main St. and Hawthorne St. finished in June.

After July’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, the town’s mayor, said officials took some heat in the early stages of the project, but she’s heard good things since it wrapped up.

“Now that people have seen it and they understand it a lot more, I’ve gotten quite a few comments- positive comments- about it.”

Boucher said she’s been told the intersection looks better, it’s safer, and it’s less confusing for residents and visitors.

She said she’s pleased the roughly $560,000 project finished on time and on budget.
