MODG warden says Dorian response went well

The warden of the Municipality of the District of Guysborough says their response to Hurricane Dorian was a team effort.

Councillors heard a report on the storm’s impact on the municipality during September’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday.

After the meeting, Vernon Pitts, the municipality’s warden, said everything went well.

“We weathered the storm fairly well- I think that was due to basically the team working together,” he said. “I’ll consider everyone a team in the equation.”

Pitts said Nova Scotia Power workers were on the ground in the municipality ready to mobilize before the storm even arrived.

He said they’re always trying to improve for the next time.

“We haven’t really had a debriefing yet with our senior staff- that’ll be taking place within the next week or so,” he said. “At that time, we’ll see where our deficiencies are, and hopefully going forward, we’ll take steps to address them.”

Pitts said DOT reps kept the roads open and clear of trees all night.
