Municipal officials preparing for next storm following Dorian

The warden of Inverness Co. says they’ve recovered from the impact of Hurricane Dorian.

Betty Ann MacQuarrie says they’ve taken some important lessons from the September storm.

After October’s regular municipal council meeting Thursday afternoon, MacQuarrie told The Hawk they’ve set aside $250,000 for generators.

“We just have to make the purchase and decide where they are going to be,” she said. “I think we are looking at possibly having one portable generator and the rest fixed.”

MacQuarrie said those kind of power assets will help them with warming stations, and may be used to support their water infrastructure to prevent a loss of water service like some communities experienced after the storm.

She said they’ve learned, and they’re going to rework their emergency response.

“Most definitely, we’ll be reviewing our emergency measures plan with Mr. (David) Coulombe when he arrives here on Oct. 14,” she said. “We will start conversations at that time to plan for being prepared for such weather in the future.”

MacQuarrie said they’ll work with Coulombe, their new director of the infrastructure and emergency services, on an updated plan once he starts.
