Local communities to start generating solar power

Two local communities have been approved to start generating solar energy and selling excess to the province.

The Municipality of the County of Antigonish and Paqtnkek First Nation have been accepted to the province’s Solar Electricity for Community Buildings program.

The program will allow them to add solar systems to their buildings, and they’ll be able to sell any power they don’t use to the province.

The Municipality of the County of Antigonish has been approved for a 72-kilowatt project, at a buyback rate of $0.208/kWh.

Paqtnkek First Nation’s Bayside Development Corporation has been approved for a 75-kilowatt project, at a buyback rate of $0.259/kWh.
