Town councillors to sit down with new MP

Port Hawkesbury‘s mayor says a meeting with their newly-elected MP will happen soon.

Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says Mike Kelloway personally reached out after he won the Cape Breton-Canso seat in the Oct. 21 federal election.

After November’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Chisholm-Beaton said they’re eager to share their concerns and ideas.

“(We’ll have) a meeting to talk about what the opportunities (are)- he’s a very positive person, and we certainly look forward to meeting with him, and working with him as well,” she said. “(It) would be great to have our Member of Parliament assist our region with really moving some of those projects forward and creating some momentum.”

Chisholm-Beaton said they’ve got ideas for projects and direction for the region they’re excited to share.

She said a strategy to grow our communities is needed.

“We are all really- I believe- wanting to see our community grow, thrive and flourish,” she said. “What can potential future job creation look like?”

Chisholm-Beaton said jobs, economic development and population retention will be top of mind in that meeting.
