New skatepark should be ready before end of November- mayor

The mayor of Antigonish says the community’s new skatepark should be ready soon.

Ground was broken on the roughly $700,000 project in July.

After November’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor, said they’re behind schedule due to a couple of issues, including some bad weather.

Boucher said future users of the facility have been patient.

“No complaints- I think people are still very excited,” she said. “We did see some people on it (already).”

Boucher said it wasn’t ready, so the skateboarders were asked to leave.

She said they hope to have a soft opening before the end of November, with a grand opening in the spring.
